Cancer Society Needs Volunteers
The Canadian Cancer Society is looking for volunteers in the Cranbrook area to help facilitate Promote Health: Prevent Cancer workshops.
The role requires 4 to 6 hours per month and training will be provided.

Midwifery Awareness Week May 5th
Midwifery Awareness Week is coming up the first week of May and May 5th is the International Day of the Midwife. Carolyn Thibeault with East Kootenay Midwives says their practice will be hosting an open house that day from noon until 2.
She says there is a growing trend of people choosing to go to a midwife for their prenatal care.
Thibeault says in 2007, East Kootenay Midwives delivered 110 babies in the Cranbrook area, just over a quarter of all the babies delivered locally.
East Kootenay Midwives will also be showing a documentary by Ricki Lake, which provides an overview of what midwives do.
The film will be shown Wednesday May 7th at the College of the Rockies from 7 until 9pm.

Cranbrook RCMP Investigate Stabbing
Cranbrook RCMP are investigating a stabbing that happened last Thursday morning. Police were called to the 1000 block of 12th Avenue South, around 7am, after a neighbour saw a male suspect chasing a male and a youth.
Police arrived to find the adult male suffering from multiple stab wounds, and was transported to hospital, where he was later released.
RCMP are looking for the suspect. An arrest warrant has been issued for 34-year-old Stephen Eric Davis, also known as Stephen Rephin, charging him with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

Cranbrook Emergency Services Strategic Plan
A new 10 year Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services Strategic Plan is now in place, following a presentation to city council Monday night. The plan includes several significant details.
The decommissioning of Fire Hall #1 in 2011 and move primary operations to a renovated Fire Hall #2; building another fire hall in the Industrial Park to look after the northwest portion of the city.
Fire Chief Wayne Price says the plan also includes the creation of 8 new firefighter positions between now and 2013.
It also includes the development of a long term plan for emergency response services at the Canadian Rockies International Airport.
Men's Shelter Closing Doors For Summer
Cranbrook's Men's Shelter is wrapping up it's first year of use. Kootenay Christian Fellowship Board Member, Tom McCaughey says the number of people using the facility is what he expected.
McCaughey says the facility will be closing for the summer, no date has been set for the closure. McCaughey says the funding isn't sufficient to keep it open through the summer.
The Men's Shelter will open again in October.
McCaughey says the cost of running the facility is about 250 per night, but hopes funds will be raised so the shelter can be used next winter.
